A while ago when I stood before the students, parents, and staff as Guest of Honour at the Kabojja International School Annual Awards Day 2026, I wanted to challenge this passive view of destiny. Speaking on the event’s theme, “The Future Is Ours to Create,” I shared a message that lies at the very heart of my own journey: the future is not something that simply happens to us; it is something we actively shape through our choices, habits, and mindset.
The future is a wide-open canvas, and you hold the brush. Every late-night study session, every setback you overcome, every bold idea you dare to express; these are the deliberate strokes that paint the picture of what comes next.

At academic award ceremonies, the spotlight naturally falls on top performers. Trophies and certificates celebrate hours of dedication, intellect, and focus. Yet, across my over two decades in banking, I have learnt a key lesson: the future rarely rewards talent or luck alone. It rewards preparation, persistence, and courage.
To the award winners, their achievements are well-deserved symbols of their dedication. But true excellence is about more than topping a class or winning every trophy. True excellence is found in resilience:
- It is the grit to rise after a disappointing test result.

The knowledge you gain in school is invaluable, but technical knowledge eventually needs refreshing. What endures is your character; your empathy, integrity, adaptability, and hunger to learn. Stay curious, stay humble, and keep growing.

The most meaningful futures are those that include others. As you create success for yourself, ensure your masterpiece lifts your family, your community, and our nation alongside you. True leadership is simply service in action.
